"WILLIAM ALBERT KNIGHT was in the service of Sir John Jackson, Ltd., contractors, Westminster, during almost the whole of his professional career, including his apprenticeship, which he served at Simonstown, South Africa, from 1906 to 1910.
After two years' employment at the Singapore harbour works he went to Canada, and from 1913 to 1922, was m charge of the plant for the firm at the harbour works, Victoria, British Columbia. He then came to this country, and, for the next two years, was head of the mechanical department of the contract for the construction of the King's Dock at Swansea. His next appointment was in Canada where he took charge of the British Columbia Cement Works at Bamberton with responsibility for the construction of the entire plant. In 1930 he became deputy chief mechanical engineer to Sir John Jackson, Ltd., on the contract for the Naval Base at Singapore, a position which he held until 1941. Subsequently he went to South Africa, where his death in his fifty-sixth year occurred on 29th August 1948. Mr. Knight had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1936."
