"WILFRED GOULDING was associated with water supply engineering during almost the whole of his professional career. He was educated at the Latymer Upper School, Hammersmith, and the East Ham Technical Institute. On the completion of a six years' apprenticeship with Messrs. E. Hunt and Company, Ltd., engineers and millwrights, London, in 1914, he joined H.M. Forces and served in France with the Mechanical Transport and was subsequently made workshop staff sergeant. After his demobilization in 1919 he returned to Messrs. E. Hunt and Company as shop foreman and later was works foreman to the Kingsland Engineering Co for a brief period. In 1922 he was appointed assistant to the superintendent of the water section of the Barnet District Gas and Water Co, in whose service he continued until 1926 when he received the appointment of superintendent at the Langford pumping station of the Southend Water Works Company and began a connection which lasted until his death on 22nd July 1948, at the age of fifty-five. A memorial plaque has been placed in Langford pumping station. Mr. Goulding had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1934."
