Webster's Ropery, also know as Deptford Patent Ropery, Ropery Road, Deptford, Sunderland

1793 Ropery opened, owned by Grimshaw, Webster and Co.

1795 Steam engine installed; said to be the first steam engine to be used in a rope works. "Probably the region's oldest factory building and the earliest patent ropery" (producing rope without a rope walk, using the Fothergill Process).[1]
