Wantage Tramway

This 2.5 mile tramway ran from the town to the Great Western Railway

1875 Tramway opened. Initially it was horse-drawn but was converted to steam operation soon afterward.

1876 Grantham's steam tramcar was used for several years.

1880 The Mekarski propulsion system was tried on the Wantage tramway but did not find favour there because the compressor plant used more than four times as much coal as a steam locomotive.

1925 passenger services ceased

1945 goods services ceased
