"WALTER WEBB was chairman and managing director of Messrs. Joseph Webb and Sons, Ltd., Irwell Forge, Bury, and had been associated with the firm from 1894, when he began to serve his apprenticeship, until his death, which occurred on 23rd March 1951 in his seventy-fifth year.

He was educated at Bury Grammar School and at a technical school in Manchester. In 1906 he was appointed manager and joined the board of directors. He had been chairman since 1925. Mr. Webb served with the volunteers in the Boer War and was on active service with H.M. Forces throughout the 1914-18 war and rose to the rank of major. He had been a Member of the Institution since 1922. "
