WALTER MACFARLANE of Kelvin, Hollies Drive, Wednesbury, died on November 19, 1921.
His business career began in the office of a Glasgow firm of metal merchants, shortly after becoming a student at the John Anderson's College, winning a bursary of £150.
He later became chemist in an iron and steel works in Yorkshire, which he left to take up an appointment as metallurgical adviser to the Glengairloch Iron and Steel Company.
In 1896 he became a metallurgical lecturer, and shortly afterwards was appointed Principal of the County Technical College, then known as the Staffordshire Metallurgical College. He occupied this position for a great number of years, and upon his retirement he was honoured by the position of Emeritus Principal of the College.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1890. He took a great interest in the activities of the Institute, and was a constant attendant at its meetings.
