Thwaites Beer
Daniel Thwaites and Co of the Star Brewery, Blackburn, Lancs.
1807 Daniel Thwaite joined George Clayton and Edward Duckworth in establishing the Eanam Brewery.
1822 Edward Clayton died and his share in the business passed to his daughter, now married to Daniel Thwaite.
1824 The brewery became the sole property of Thwaites after William Clayton sold his share to Daniel.
1843 Daniel Jnr, John and Thomas Thwaite inherited the business after the death of their father.
1858 Daniel Jnr became sole owner of the brewery.
1863 The Snig Brook Brewery was acquired and the brewery continued to prosper and develop in size.
1897 The company became a limited company.
1923 Thwaites bought the James Pickup Wines and Spirits Co and then Henry Shaw and Co, which owned the Salford New Brewery.
1925 Thwaites began bottling its beers.
1927 Company bought the Fountain Free Brewery.
1946 The company purchased the Bury Brewing Co
1956 The Preston Brewery Co was acquired.
1966 The Eanam Brewery was extended and renamed Daniel Thwaites ‘The Star Brewery’.
1960s Thwaites public houses were in abundance.
1984 Company purchased Yates and Jackson of Lancaster.
2008 The Star Brewery and the Thwaites company are still in existence, still being run by the Thwaite family.
