Thomas Whiffen (1819-1904) of Whiffen and Sons

1819 July 28th. Born in Newington, the son of William Whiffen (1790–1858), a cabinet-maker, and his wife Mary Ann Bowden

His education and early days are unknown. As a young man he became a coal merchant's clerk and then went on to train as a pharmacist. After qualifying, he to have been employed in the business of a chemist and druggist.

1845 July 29th. Married in London to Faith White, of Penzance, with whom he had three sons: Thomas Joseph (1850–1931), William George (1852–1934), and Alfred Herbert (1855–1893).

1861 Living at Lombard Road, Battersea: Thomas Whiffen (age 41 born Newington Butts), Manufacturing Chemist. With his wife Faith Whiffen (age 45 born ?) and their five children; Emma F. Whiffen (age 12 born Christchurch, Sy.); Thomas J. Whiffen (age 10 born Camberwell); William G. Whiffen (age 9 born Camberwell); Mary F. Whiffen (age 7 born Newington); Alfred H. Whiffen (age 5 born Newington). One servant.[1]

1904 March 27th. Died at Cerris House, West Hill, Wandsworth.
