1840 Married Mary Francis in St Pancras[1]

1843 February 1st. Birth of son John Isaac Thornycroft in Rome. Both parents were sculptors and were studying at the Vatican.

1851 A sculptor, living in Regents Park, with Mary Thornycroft 38, Frances Thornycroft 4, Helen Thornycroft 2, William Thornycroft 1[2]

1857 Received a £100 premium for his entry in the competition for the Wellington Monument

He bought land at Chiswick with a view to starting a business building steam-launches where his son John built the launch "Miranda".

1871 A sculptor, living in Belgravia, with Mary Thornycroft 54, Alice Thornycroft 25, Frances, Thornycroft 24, Ellen Thornycroft 22, William Thornycroft 20, Georgia Thornycroft 18[3]
