1822 Born son of Thomas Firth, Senior

Worked at the crucible steel works of Sanderson Brothers and Co where his father worked as head smelter

1841 Living in Sheffield: Thomas Firth (age c52), steel refiner, with Mary (age c48), Mark (age c220 a clerk, Thomas (age c19) a steel refiner, John (age c17) a clerk, Edward (age c11), Mary (age c9), Elizabeth (age c6), and Charles (age c4)[1]

1842 Left Sandersons to set up his own business with his brother, Mark Firth, smelting steel at Portobello works, Charlotte Street, Sheffield. Their father joined them shortly afterwards, together with head smelter Joseph Bridden, and the business became Thomas Firth and Sons.

1846 April 13th. Married(1) in Sheffield to Frances Rush Scott

1851 Living at 2 Spring Place, Courant? Walk, Eccleshall Bierlow, Sheffield: Thomas Firth (age 29 born Sheffield), Steel merchant - Widower. With his two sister-in-law Alice Scott (age 22 born Ashton under Lyne) and Isabella Scott (age 21 born Nottingham). One servant.[2]

1852 Married(2) Jane Busey in Ashton, Lancs[3]

1860 March 10th. Died in Sheffield. Probate to Mark Firth, Merchant, and John Firth, his brothers, and others[4]
