Shuttle Makers
- 1849 Founded by Thomas Comstive[1] in partnership with his brothers William, and Joseph Comstive.[2]
- 1854 Thomas Comstive of Burnley, shuttle maker. Patent: improvements in the shuttles for weaving[3]
- 1860 NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned, Thomas Comstive, William Comstive, and Joseph Comstive, as Manufacturers of Shuttles and Picking Sticks in Marsden's Foundry, Burnley, in the county of Lancaster, under the style of Thomas Comstive and Bros., has this day been dissolved by mutual consent; and that all debts due to and owing by the late co-partnership will be received and paid by the said Thomas Comstive.— As witness our hands this 15th day of November, 1860.[4]
- 1864 Thomas Comstive of Burnley, shuttle maker and Christopher Catlow of Clitheroe. Patent: improvements in the shuttles for weaving[5]
- 1868 All debts owed by James Ingham, shuttle maker (deceased) will be paid by Thomas Comstive[6]
- 1874 Thomas Comstive appointed to board of directors of Cooper Brothers and Company Ltd.,[7]
- 1880 Thomas and Joseph Comstive of Burnley. Patent: improvements in the shuttles for looms[8]
- 1886 Death of Thomas Comstive, 6 June.[9]
- 1888 Moved from Canal Street to Hammerton Street Shuttle Works, Burnley. 'Manufacturers of shuttles, picking stickes &c.'[10]
- 1892 Hammerton Street Shuttle Works destroyed by fire[11]
- 1893 New factory at Calder Vale Shuttle Works, Burnley.[12]
- 1909 Became a limited company, with Thomas Comstive's four sons, Thomas, William, Louis and Arthur appointed as its directors. New premises on Caldervale Road[13]
- 1929 Moved to Bristol Mill, Caldervale Road.[14]
- 1949 Managing Director: Walter Comstive, son of William Comstive and grandson of Thomas Comstive I.[15]
- 1955 Company liquidated, 23 May [16]
