CAPTAIN THOMAS BRIDGES HEATHORN, R.A., died at 10, Wilton Place: S.W., on the 23rd January, 1911, aged 80.
Trained at Putney College for the engineering profession, he afterwards entered the East India Company’s military school at Addiscombe.
He obtained his lieutenant’s commission in 1850, and served throughout the Crimean War in the Turkish Contingent, holding the position of Deputy Quartermaster-General of Artillery.
He also served in the Indian Mutiny campaign, was present at Kotah and other actions, and was mentioned in despatches.
In 1868 he served on the Armaments Committee of the War Office, and in later life, he became a director and Chairman of the South Metropolitan Gas Company, and was the inventor of several patented appliances in connection with ordnance machinery.
He was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 6th December, 1881.
