THOMAS ALEXANDER NORRIS JENKINS was born in 1881 and served an apprenticeship in the locomotive, carriage, and wagon works of the Rhymney Railway from 1895 to 1902.

He was then employed as an erector to the Cape Copper Company in Namaqualand, South Africa, and later acted as assistant to the locomotive superintendent.

After serving at sea as a marine engineer from 1907 to 1913 he went to Peru where he spent the rest of his life.

He was an assistant mechanical engineer at the Peruvian Silver Mines for three years before joining, in 1916, the staff of the Southern Railways of Peru as assistant locomotive superintendent and works manager. He held this position until 1933 when he was promoted to be locomotive superintendent. Since 1947 he had been chief mechanical engineer.

Mr. Jenkins was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1923 and transferred to Membership four years later. His death occurred on 2nd October 1951.
