SOPHUS SIMMELKJOER, born at Helsingiir, Denmark, on the 2lst October, 1836, died in London on the 9th October, 1913.

Having acquired experience of gas and waterworks engineering at Copenhagen, Riga and Moscow, he was appointed, in 1886, Engineer and Manager to the Cagliari (Italy) Gas and Water Company. He held this position until 1892, when he became a Director of the Company, removed to London and engaged in consulting practice, being Consulting Engineer to the Buenos Aires Gas Company and other similar undertakings.

Mr. Simmelkjoer was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 21st May, 1895.
