Senior

Senior plc is the holding company for a global group of firms in the manufacturing and engineering industries, headquartered in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. The Company is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

1933 Senior was established by a group of former employees of Green's Economisers as a rival concern.

1947 The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange as Senior Economisers

1969 Senior Group recognised that the business was much more dependent on steel tubing, air handling and engineering work than economisers, for which the future prospects did not look so good[1]

c.1970 Name changed to Senior Engineering Group Ltd

1983 Acquired Green's Economiser Group plc

1991 Acquired Calorstat Industries SA

1992 Acquired Flexonics, flexible tube and hosing makers of USA[2]

1993 Acquired the Brasway steel tubing business[3] which was added to the Phoenix Steel Tube and Tube Products businesses.

1993 Subsidiaries included:

1994 Acquisitions of 2 makers of flexible hoses, joints and bellows[4]

1997 Sold the loss-making thermal engineering division[5]

1998 Nine acquisitions in the past 9 months but Flexonics was responsible for most of the profit[6]

1999 Sold the heat-treatment subsidiary, which had become "non-core"[7]. Name changed to Senior plc.

2004 Completed disposal of industrial subsidiaries. Senior's constituent companies grouped in two divisions:

  • Aerospace, which manufactures components and systems for clients in the aerospace industry
  • Flexonics, which primarily supplies the automotive and energy industries.
