1919 The company was incorporated by arrangement with Anglo-Persian Oil Co, which would have a controlling interest. The new company acquired the ordinary shares of the four shale oil companies, including Pumpherston Oil Co the Broxburn Oil Co, the Oakbank Oil Co, Youngs Paraffin Light and Mineral Oil Co, James Ross and Co, Philpstoun Oil Works and the Scottish parts of British Petroleum Co and Home Light Oil Co[1]
The investment of £1 million by the Anglo-Persian Oil Co, giving that company a substantial interest, was intended to develop the shale oil industry[2]
1922 "At the annual meeting of Scottish Oils, Limited, it was stated that the various mines and works of the associated companies are now practically all in operation. The refinery at Uphall has been modified, and in the future it is intended to deal with Persian crude oil at these works. Satisfactory progress is reported in connection with the Grangemouth refinery scheme. Railway sidings and roads have been made, and a jetty has been constructed at Grangemouth Docks. The erection of a number of storage tanks is being proceeded with." From The Engineer 1922/07/07.
1925 The company was losing a lot of money on the shale oil part of the business; the company was also refining Persian oil and distributing the products therefrom and this part of the business was performing satisfactorily[3]
1936 Scottish Oils was one of the UK's suppliers of petrol[4].
