Samuel Peter Austin
1808 February 14th - Born the son of Peter Austin and Jane Moore Austin at Coxhoe, Durham Unitary Authority, County Durham.[1]
1826 Peter Austin founded a ship yard on the north side of the Wear under the company which came to be called S. P. Austin and Son.
1839 December 12th. Married Julia Ann, daughter of John Richard Moore, at Bishopwearmouth.
1841 Living in Stockton with (wife) Julia Austin 22 and (daughter) Julia Austin 3 Mo[2]
1842 November 24th. Birth of son Samuel Peter Austin, Junior.
1843 Birth of daughter Christiana Austin Robson (1843 - 1877).[3]
1847 Birth of daughter Isabella Austin Hirst (1847 - 1929).[4]
1849 Birth of son Woodman Austin (1849 - 1882).[5]
1850 Listed as shipbuilder and owner, of Wear Slip way, B panns. Resident at 16 John Street. Also lists Austin and Mills, Shipbuilders of Low Southwick and William Austin, ship owner of 19 Nile Street. [6]
1851 Birth of son Edwin Austin (1851 - 1870).[7]
1851 Living at 16 John Street, Bishopwearmouth (age 43 born Thelhae, Durham), Ship Builder. With wife Julia A. (age 32) and children Julia (age 10), Samuel P. (age 8), Christina (age 7), Laura (age 5), Isabella (age 3) and Woodman (age 2). Four servants. Note: He is listed as John P. Austin but this is incorrect. [8]
1853 Birth of son Arthur Robert Austin (1853 - 1873).[9]
1854 Birth of daughter Ellinor Moore Austin Heathcote (1854 - 1937).[10]
1857 Birth of son Stanley Austin (1857 - 1900).[11]
1861 Living at 1 Esplanade, Bishopwearmouth (age 53 born Cogenhoe, Durham) Shipbuilder employing 60 men. With children Julia (age 20); Samuel P. (age 18), Shipbuilder; Laura (age 15), Isabella (age 13); Edwin (age 9); Arthur R. (age 8); Eleanor M. (age 6) and Stanley (age 4). Four servants. [12]
1862 Marriage of Christiana the daughter of Samuel Peter Austin, shipbuilder of Bishopwearmouth, to Matthew Robson, Merchant [13]
1866(?) Retired. His son, Samuel Peter Austin, Junior, took over the yard and moved it to the South side of the river [14]
1867 Samuel Peter Austin died and his son took over full control with brother Stanley Austin
1867 May 30th. Died at Sunderland, Metropolitan Borough of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear.[15]
