SAMUEL MARK FOLK was an Associate Member of the Institution for thirty-seven years, having been elected in 1909. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
He was born in Melbourne in 1868, and after the completion of his general education at All Saints Grammar School, in 1882, served a six years' apprenticeship in an engineer's office in the same city. He received his technical instruction at the Central Technical College, South Kensington, and obtained the college diploma. After three years' experience as assistant to the resident engineer of the London and St. Katherine's Docks he became a partner in the firm of Messrs. Walker, Folk and, Company, consulting engineers. On the dissolution of the partnership in 1921, Mr. Folk acted as engineer specialist to the Sandeman Belting Company, Ltd., until his retirement some two years later. His death occurred on 15th January 1946.
