SAMUEL LUCAS TURNER, born at Stratford-on-Avon on the 17th December, 1842, died in California on the 26th February, 1913.

On the completion of his education he went out to Brazil and was engaged, in 1868, in the preparation of a map of Sao Paulo and laying out roads.

A few years later he was employed on the construction of the Mogyana Railway, and in 1876 became General Manager of the Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro Railway.

After a stay of 21 years in Brazil he took up farming in California, where he died.

Mr. Turner was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 1st December, 1885.
