1883 Built by Aitken and Mansel at Whiteinch, Glasgow; electric lighting was fitted and refrigerated compartment to provide fresh meat for the passengers.

1888 The Union Steamship Co's Royal Mail steamer Tartar was converted from compound to triple expansion engines[1]

1889 After an accident, the iron propeller shafting was replaced by steel shafting[2]
