1934-39 Samuel Wernick made poultry cases for his poultry business. His first order was for a poultry house. The business expanded and Samuel's product range increased to include agricultural and garden buildings.

Post-WWII. Samuel Wernick’s sons, Solly and Nat, together with their brother-in-law Max, joined the business after completing military service.

1946 S. Wernick and Sons Limited was incorporated, with workshop facilities at 127 Waterloo Road, Wolverhampton.

1948 Samuel's son, Joe, joined the company, after completing his military service.

1955 Land was purchased at Brownhills and the first stage of the Brownhills factory completed, with Solly Wernick in charge.

1959 Wernick Hire was formed, offering a complete service for all types of portable buildings.

1960s Manufactured classrooms, hospital units and other timber-framed buildings for Local Authorities and Government-based agencies.

1970s Due to expansion, extensions were made to the factory premises at Brownhills and Billericay.

1980 Wernick took over the Secometric Group of Companies based at Wickford in Essex and Horwich in Lancashire.

1981 With superior facilities at Wickford, work ceased at Billericay and all southern operations moved to the Wickford site.

1988 Wernick took over Swiftplan Limited, part of the Taylor Woodrow Group, an acquisition with further manufacturing and hire facilities at Neath, South Wales.

1995 Wernick purchased Hallam Hire from Vic Hallam Limited, which expanded the hire facilities with new depots at Rochdale, Nottingham and Isleworth in West London. Later the same year Wernick purchased the Cabin Fleet of BSS, expanding the range of units available for hire.

1996 Wernick purchased the portable building division of VibroPlant, increasing hire buildings to over 5,000 and the network to 12. New regional offices were opened in Glasgow, Dundee, Stockton, Eggborough, North Kilworth and Newport.

1997 Donald Smith (Container Leasing) Ltd was acquired.

1998 Expansion continued with the acquisition of the northern division of MAC Containers, Samson of Wakefield, the rental business of Alliedcabin, UK Cabins and Portable Accommodation Services. Well over 3,500 units were added to the Wernick fleet and the depot network increased to keep pace.

2000 Wernick Hire expanded into Aberdeen with the purchase of Securastore, adding a further 260 units.

2003 A thousand more units were acquired with the portable building division of JFM.

During 2005/2006, five more businesses were taken over: Anglia Cabins, brought a further 180 buildings to the depot in Stanton, Suffolk; PK Accommodation (adding 600 units and 2 depots); CDC Instant Space in Cornwall (500 units and 2 depots); Accommodation Hire (5,400 units and 10 depots) and the cabin division of Selwood Plant (600 cabins and a new depot in Southampton).
