Samuel Barnish of Acker Street Works, Rochdale

1857 Advert: 'S. Barnish has always on hand Portable Engines, from 2 to 3 horse power; may be seen on the premises, Ackers-street, Rochdale.'[1]

1857 'ASSAULTING AN APPRENTICE.—At the petty sessions,on Wednesday, Mr. S. Barnish, machine maker, was charged by an apprentice, Thos. Ashworth, with committing a violent assault upon him on Monday. Mr. Hartley appeared for the complainant, Mr. and[?] Harris for the defendant. Ashworth had been turning a spindle for a lathe, and had spoiled it. This enraged Mr. Barnish, and he then committed the assault. Mr. Harris said that Ashworth had used provoking language to his master. The bench inflicted a penalty of 20s. and expenses.'[2]
