1882 Company incorporated as the National African Company

1886 Name changed to Royal Niger Company; granting of charter; initiation of plans for management of the lands assigned to the company on the Niger and Benue rivers in West Africa[1]

1890 The company supported Mizon's exploration of the river Niger[2]

1890s Entered into treaties with rulers in parts of West Africa[3]

1900 The royal charter was surrendered and the company renamed as the Niger Co[4]
