"RONALD PRYCE ROWLANDS, whose untimely death as the result of an accident occurred on 14th November 1947, at the early age of twenty-eight, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1946 and was transferred to Associate Membership in the following year.
He received his technical education at Crewe Technical College and served his apprenticeship from 1935 to 1940 at the Crewe works of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. On the conclusion of his practical training he remained in the service of the railway company as an improver and subsequently as inspector of materials. In September 1941 he joined the Royal Air Force and in 1942 he was released and attached to the Research Prototype Unit of the Ministry of Supply at Bournemouth. After serving as a draughtsman he was appointed technical assistant and finally became manager of the progress department. His last appointment was that of deputy manager of the Ministry's Guided Projectiles Department at Aylesbury, where his promising career was closed by an explosion whilst on duty."
