"ROGER HAMPSON spent the whole of his engineering career in the service of the Lancashire United Transport and Power Company, Ltd., of Atherton, including his apprenticeship, which he served from 1902 to 1907.

On the conclusion of his practical training he successively filled positions as mechanic, chargehand, and foreman and in 1914 was appointed assistant rolling stock engineer. After thirty-one years' experience in this capacity he was finally promoted to be chief rolling-stock engineer. Mr. Hampson, whose death in his sixty-third year occurred in December 1948, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1946."
