1850 Born 21 December[1] son of James Robert Napier

Studied at Glasgow University, where he studied engineering.

Apprenticed to R. Napier and Sons and Denny and Co at Dumbarton

1874 went to Simpson and Co of Pimlico as draughtsman

1875 Moved to John Penn and Sons, Greenwich

1876 Assistant manager of the engine works of R Napier and Sons

1877 August: left Napiers to form Napier, Shanks and Bell, shipbuilders and engineers, of Yoker

1881 Master Shipbuilder Employing 300 Men & 30 Boys, lived in Old Kilpatrick[2]

1881 Married Sarah Jane Harper in Bristol[3]

1898 Joined the Institution of Civil Engineers[4]

1901 Robert T Napier 50, consulting engineer, lived in Larkshill with Sarah J Napier 51, Myra S Napier 18, Edith E Napier 2[5]

1922 Died in Dunblane[6]
