1856 Advertisement: 'To Engineers, Iron and Brass Founders, and others. …. FOUNDRY and ENGINE SHOP, at Clayton, near Manchester, late in the occupation of Messrs. Robert Crighton and Co., adjoining the new turnpike road from Manchester to Ashton-under-Lyne. and the Ashton Canal (to which it has a frontage of 30 yards), and comprising 8 horse condensing steam engine and boiler, with shafting and piping complete; cistern, large fan, cupola, large crane, patterns, &c, all in full working order. The site contains 1,775 square yards or thereabouts, leasehold for a term of 999 years, commencing in 1854 and is subject to the small yearly rent of £11 15s. The property is substantially built, and in good repair, and walled all round. The works are capable of extension, and are well suited for an iron or brass foundry, engineer, or machine makers' establishment.—For further particulars apply Mr. R.
