River Wear Bridge

‎‎1875 Construction started on a bowstring girder rail bridge over the River Wear at Sunderland for the North Eastern Railway.

1879 The bridge was opened to traffic[1] - see Monkwearmouth Railway Bridge

1909 A double deck road/rail bridge was opened over the River Wear in Sunderland for Sunderland Corporation and the North Eastern Railway. Named the Queen Alexandra Bridge.

Designed by Charles A. Harrison.

Steelwork by William Arrol and Co. Masonry by Mitchell Bros and Co of Glasgow.
