RICHARD HENRY WEBB, who was born in 1877, received his technical training (which extended over a period of twelve years, from 1893 to 1905), at the Accrington Technical School and at the Technical Schools of Messrs. Howard and Bullough, textile engineers, of Accrington, with whom his apprenticeship was served from 1892 to 1898. He remained with that firm as draughtsman for a further ten years, and was chiefly concerned with the design of machinery and layout of textile mills.
On the completion of a two years' engagement as mechanical draughtsman to Messrs. F. W. Rowlands and Sons, Ltd., of Seacombe, in 1912, he began an association with Messrs. Takata and Company, Japanese merchants, which lasted for thirty years. During this long period he was responsible as manager of the London office for the purchase and export to Japan of a great variety of engineering machinery and industrial plant. Latterly he had been engaged on the staff of Messrs. Gaston E. Marbaix, Ltd., of Westminster.
Mr. Webb, whose death occurred on 12th January 1946, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1919.
