"RAYMOND GWYNNE REES was associated with the road motor industry during the greater part of his career.
He was born at Nantwich in 1888 and received his technical training at the Technical Schools in Newport, Mon., and Llanelly. On the conclusion of his apprenticeship, which he served between 1906 and 1910, first at the Old Castle Tinplate Works at Llanelly and then in the shops of the Alexander Dock, Newport, he gained further experience in the works of several motor car manufacturers, including the Austin and Wolseley companies. His next post was that of assistant, and subsequently chief, engineer to the South Wales Transport Company, Ltd., Swansea. During the last two years of the 1914-18 war he was employed at H.M. Dockyard, Pembroke, on work connected with submarine engines.
In 1919 he accepted an appointment as engineer and transport manager to Messrs. G. F. Lovell and Company, Ltd., Newport, in which capacity he was entirely responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of a fleet of road transport vehicles. After holding this position for fifteen years he was, from 1935 to 1937, director of Messrs. Somerton Transport, Ltd. Following a brief appointment with the British School of Motoring in Bristol he joined Messrs. Walker Steel Works, Ltd., Sheffield, in whose service he continued as sales engineer up to the time of his death, which occurred on 23rd November 1949. He had been an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers since 1923."
