Mr. PENNINGTON graduated B.Sc. Tech. in mechanical engineering at the University of Manchester, College of Technology, in 1916.

In the same year he joined the staff of Messrs. Mather and Platt, Ltd., Manchester, becoming chief designer in the Pump Department shortly afterwards. He was made chief engineer in the same department in 1932, and was appointed a director of the firm in 1944.

He has contributed to the PROCEEDINGS of the Institution and to various technical societies, and has served on committees of the British Standards Institution, the British Hydromechanics Research Association, etc.

His inventions relate to centrifugal pumps, boiler feed systems, heat-exchangers, automatic variable-output plunger pumps, hydraulic gears, tidal power, etc.
