1869 Construction started, a line of political and military importance. Runs from Lahore, a continuation of the Delhi and Punjab line, to the frontier outpost of Peshawar, with intended length of 173 miles.

1875 First 62 miles were open to traffic

1879 Opening of the first broad gauge tracks.

By the end of 1879 103 miles were open.

1883 The Star and Crown of India were awarded to Alexander Grant, late chief engineer, and Francis Langford O'Callaghan, chief engineer.[1]

1885 446 miles in operation
