Portsmouth Aviation

Originally Portsmouth, Southsea and Isle of Wight Aviation and founded in 1932 to operate air services.

1929 Private company.

1943 Restructured as Portsmouth Aviation Ltd and started plane design and manufacture. Designed the Aerocar Major monoplane for five passengers and powered by two 155 hp Blackburn Cirrus Major III engines. The plane never went in to production.

1946 Public company.

1961 Design and development of aircraft ground handling equipment and armaments, and general light engineers. 400 employees. [1]
