Port Talbot Railway and Docks Co

A scheme was proposed for a docks at Port Talbot with connecting railway to export coal from the Dyfrryn Valley, by Miss Talbot and her agent

35 miles from Port Talbot to Maesteg and Pontyrhyl and served fifty collieries, sometimes known as the Port Talbot Railway. It connected with the South Wales Mineral Railway at Tonmawr. [1]

1894 The company was incorporated to acquire and improve the existing harbour and docks at Port Talbot, South Wales, and has constructed a railway about 34 miles in length, connecting the port with certain colleries. [2]

1894 Act of Parliament passed

1895 Work on the line began; the company acquired the existing harbour and docks.

1897 Railway completed

1898 Docks completion

1919 Resident Engineer is William Cleaver. Mechanical Engineer is H. J. Roberts.[3]

1923 Became part of the Great Western Railway [4]
