1933/4 Joined with Humphrey Cook and Raymond Mays in forming English Racing Automobiles

1935 Married Mary L Wiltshire[2]

1938 After the collapse of ERA, Berthon and Mays raced an ERA car privately

WWII Pilot with RAF

Post-War: with Mays he established BRM and designed a radical V16 engine which was subject to considerable mechanical stress because of its high operating speed (12,000 rpm).

After the Rubery Owen takeover, he designed a new V8 engine for BRM which led to Grand Prix success.

1962 Married Althaea A. Furness

1971 Died in South Africa
