PERCY FREDERICK HODGSON was born in 1868 and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Saxby and Farmer, Ltd., makers of signalling apparatus, with whom he continued to be associated during almost the whole of his professional career. After gaining experience as a draughtsman with the firm he received an appointment in 1893 as signal engineer to the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada, but relinquished this position six years later, and returned to Messrs, Saxby and Farmer—subsequently being made works manager.
In 1907 he became a director in the London office of the firm, and five years later was appointed managing director, a position he retained until 1919, when for a brief period he returned to the works at Chippenham, Wilts, as director and works manager, retiring shortly afterwards.
Mr. Hodgson, whose death occurred in January 1945, was elected a Member of the Institution in 1906.
