Percy Dixon Cook (1883-1925)

1926 Obituary [1]

PERCY DIXON COOK was born at Odessa, Russia, on 9th June 1883, and was educated at St. Paul's College of Science in that city, followed by some years spent at Queen Elizabeth's School, Cranbrook, Kent.

He served an apprenticeship in Odessa with the Bellino-Fenderich Engineering and Iron Foundry Co., Ltd., and subsequently spent nearly five years in the drawing office of that firm.

In 1910 he became assistant director (chief engineer and works manager) with the Alexandrowsk Engineering Co., Ltd., at Alexandrowsk, Russia, this being followed, fifteen months later, by an engagement as assistant manager with the Odessa branch of the J. I. Case Threshing Machine Co.

Oil-engine matters then engaged Mr. Cook's attention, and he spent more than three years with the Baku Sabountchi Co., Ltd., Baku, as manager of their Technical and Petter Oil-Engine departments.

This position led to a return to England in 1917 as assistant chief engineer to Petters, Ltd., Yeovil, and subsequently for supervisional work in the London district.

In May 1922 Mr. Cook joined the Hamworthy Engineering Company, and, acting as their engineering representative for foreign trade, he made an extensive business tour in South Africa.

In February 1925 he joined the National Supply Corporation as sales manager of the "Wico" Ignition. Dept., which post he held until his death on 9th July 1925, after an operation.

He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1921.
