1799 Advertisement: 'To be Sold, by private Contract, The large COTTON TWIST MILL, situated at the Mill Hill, in Little Bolton, within half a mile of Bolton, lately erected by Peels, Ainsworth and Co. being a new and well built brick building, four stories high, 72 feet long by 30 feet wide within walls, with a large water wheel, 18 feet high, and 6½ feet wide, with full 17 feet fall, on a good stream, and equal to fourteen horses power, with all the upright shafts, geers, &c. &c. complete, with culverts, fenders, troughs, &c. &c. all in excellent repair, together with eight drums, containing 1344 spindles, six mules, of 24 spindles each, with carding, drawing, roving, &c. all on the newest and most approved construction; joiners' benches, complete together with a good house for the manager and four new Well built cottages
Likewise a new and convenient Building, 47 feet long by 18 feet wide, adjoining the Mill, now used as a Calender-house, in which there are lay-shafts and spur geers to two large calenders, with proper bowls in good repair, and stoves complete. The whole held by a lease under John Gartside, Esq. for 99 years, eight of which only are expired, and subject to the yearly rent of 94l.10s.
