1828 Sale Notice: '(Free from Duty) at White's Hotel, in King-street, in Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, on Monday, the 6th day of October, 1828, at 6 o'clock in the evening, under such conditions as will be then produced : ALL that plot or parcel LAND, situate on the north-easterly side of Thomas-street, in Manchester, being 30 yards to the front of Thomas-street, 12 yards in depth to Edge-street, and 30 yards to the front of Edge-street, and containing 367 superficial square yards of land or thereabouts, more or less.
And also ALL those extensive WORKSHOPS, situate thereon, fronting to Thomas-street and Edge-street, and used in the turning, copper roller, and block-making business, by the late firm of Parkinson, Arrive, and Co. and their under-tenants ; together also with a STEAM ENGINE of ten horsepower, erected upon the premises, and the upright shaft or first motion attached thereto. The above premises are freehold of inheritance, subject to the payment of two perpetual rents of £4. 19s. and £7- 18s- 4d - And also all that other plot or parcel of LAND, situite on the easterly side Riga-street, in Manchester, being 27 yards to the front of Riga-street, and 17 yards in depth to North-street, and containing superficial square yards of land or thereabouts, more or less. And all those extensive BUILDINGS situate thereon, consisting of machine shops, copper shops, brass founderies, smithies, store rooms, and counting houses, and whereon, with the above described property, the late firm of Parkinson, Arrive, and Co. have for many years carried on an extensive business as machine makers, millwrights, and copper roller manufacturers. The last mentioned plot of Land is also freehold of inheritance, subject to the payment of a perpetual rent of £22. 6s. 5d. 'To Calico Printers, Engravers, Millwrights, Machine Makers, Brass Founders, Block Makers, &c (Exempt from Duty.) By J. DREW, under the directions of the assignees of the effects Margaret Brierley and Peter Arrive, bankrupts, (late carrying on business under the firm of "Parkinson, Arrive, and Co.") on Monday the 13th day of October, 1828, and following days: The ENTIRE EFFECTS of the said bankrupts, as Machine Makers, Millwrights, Brass Founders, Coppersmiths, and Block Makers, comprising Printing, Engraving, and Wheel Cutting Machines. A number of very valuable Turning, Boring, and Slide Lathes, Tapping and Screw Cutting Machines, a large assortment of excellent Turners' Tools, with Mandrils, for Making, Turning, and Polishing Copper Rollers, and a large quantity of Water of Ayr Stone. extensive and superior Collection of Smiths' Tools, Swages, Anvils, Strong Vices, Bellows, Hearths, Also of Boxes, Patterns- Moulding and Casting Tools, old and new Brass, Copper, Spelter, Crucibles, and other articles in the Brass Foundry with Copper Rollers, Copper Pans, and Bottoms, Brass Taps, &c. A considerable quantity of new and old Files, Bolts, Screws, Pedestals fitted up, from one and a half to five and half inches diameter, several lots of new and old Iron. Various lots of Timber, a large quantity of very prime, well seasoned half-inch Holly, and other Timber, for Printers' Blocks. The whole of the very extensive and valuable Patterns, for Printing Machines, Wheels, Steps, and Pedestals, large Iron Safe, Counting-house Fixtures, &c. inc. Catalogues will be ready for delivery ten days before the sale; and for further particulars, apply to the Assignees, at the Counting-house, Riga-street, Shudehill; or to the Auctioneer, 44, King-street, Manchester.'[1]
