Parkhouse Mineral Railway

From Graces Guide

1868 A horse drawn monorail was built by John Barraclough Fell, from Yarlside Iron Mines to an exchange wharf by the Furness Railway.

1870 It was replaced by another experimental line by Mr Fell, an 8 inch gauge narrow gauge line also having a centre guide rail. One of the main features of his patent system was the use of wooden trestles to cross dips in undulating land, rather than the use of embankments and cuttings.

1873 The line became a standard gauge railway.
