NORRIS HENRY JOB, who was born in 1874, was connected with the firm of Messrs. Head, Wrightson and Company, Ltd., Teesdale Ironworks, Thornaby-on-Tees for 50 years from his apprenticeship in 1889 until his retirement on account of ill health in 1939.
He was engaged as draughtsman from 1896 to 1900, and superintended the alteration to the works, including the designing and equipping of new shops with machinery and electric power. Mr. Job eventually became chief erecting engineer and manager and had sole charge of many important contracts, chiefly in the erection of dock gates and piers. In addition he carried out a large number of contracts for the erection of industrial furnaces and kilns, particularly for iron works. Other important contracts included Dover Lighthouse, Immingham Docks, and steel masts for Rugby wireless transmitting station. His death occurred on 24th June 1940.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1906.
