NICOL MACINTYRE was born in Glasgow on 11th March 1857, and received his early education at Anderson's Academy in that city and at the Rothesay Academy, this training being subsequently supplemented by attendance at local technical classes.

He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. J. and G. Thomson, of the Clydebank Foundry, in his native town, and on completing his term in 1878 he went to sea as marine engineer, becoming a chief-engineer three years later.

In 1889 he became superintending engineer of the Seng Guan Rice Mills, Cholon, Cochin China, in which position he was responsible for the design and construction of various buildings and plant for dealing with rice.

In the following year he returned to Scotland, and later on, in 1907, he was appointed by Messrs. Douglas and Grant, of Kirkcaldy, as their engineering representative.

Mr. Maclntyre died on 17th March 1925.

He became a Member of this Institution in 1912.
