1815 Foundation stone of a building for the Institution was laid in Moorfields
Over time the surroundings of the Institution changed, with the growth of the financial activities of the City, and the Institution was no longer able to attract sufficient students to its activities.
1909 After several years of thought and discussion, the proprietors decided in a ballot to amalgamate with the Royal Society of Arts[2] but the idea met with opposition from certain figures in the City and the scheme did not proceed[3]
1911 A school of Oriental languages was to be located at the Institution[4]
1912 A School of Oriental Languages at the London Institution was proposed[5]. The proprietors agreed to hand over the freehold of the Institution to the government for the new School of Oriental Studies[6]
