Llanelly Steel Co
The Llanelly Steel Co. (1907) Ltd., of the Llanelly Steel Works, controlled the Llanelly Foundry and Engineering Co. Ltd.
1897 The Old Castle Works, which had been making its own iron until the introduction of steel production, was one of 3 local companies, the Western, Old Castle, and Briton Ferry Steel Co, which formed the Llanelly Steel Co to ensure regular, relatively cheap supplies of bar.
1898 The end of the century saw other tinplate works come under the hammer and Llanelli’s future as a tinplate centre was described as being in the hands of Richard Thomas and Co and the Old Castle Company.
1951 Nationalised under the Iron and Steel Act; became part of the Iron and Steel Corporation of Great Britain[1]
1960 Purchased from the Holding and Realization Agency by Duport[2].
1967 One of the larger steel makers not subject to nationalisation[3]
