"LIONEL JAMES DAVIES, B.Sc., who was born in 1904, was educated at the Monmouthshire Technical College, Crumlin, and at the University of Wales, where he held a county scholarship and graduated B.Sc. in engineering in 1935. He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Lancaster and Company, Ltd. (now the Richard Thomas Iron and Steel Co), Ebbw Vale, Mon., from 1918 to 1924, in whose employment he continued for a further seven years, being first engaged as maintenance and later as charge engineer. After a brief experience as a time study engineer with Messrs. Joseph Lucas, Ltd., of Birmingham, he was appointed, in 1936, senior lecturer in engineering at the Southport Technical College, with responsibility to the Principal for the planning and development of the engineering side. In 1946 he became the Principal of the County Technical School at Lewes and held this position until his death, which occurred on 24th October 1949. Mr. Davies had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1940."
