LEWIS HENRY ISAACS was born at Lancaster, where his father practised as a solicitor, on the 3rd January, 1830.

At the close of his University career he was articled to Mr. Edmund Woodthorpe, who then held the post of District Surveyor for a division of the City of London, and on the expiration of his pupilage he commenced business as an architect and surveyor, building up by his industry and assiduity an extensive and successful practice, which he carried on until his death. On the passing of the Metropolis Local Management Act, 1855, Mr. Isaacs was appointed Surveyor to the Board of Works for the Holborn District, which post he held until the dissolution of the Board.

In 1868 he was appointed Surveyor to the Hon. Society of Gray’s Inn, from which post he retired in 1899.....[more]
