Kibble Palace (Glasgow)
A glasshouse in the Botanic Gardens, Glasgow
Originally erected c.1866 at the home of John Kibble at Coulport, Loch Long. He had it dismantled, enlarged and re-erected in Glasgow Botanic Gardens as the 'Kibble Art Crystal Palace', where it was opened in 1873. Its manufacture and erection were undertaken by James Boyd & Co. of Paisley, who were involved in a similar work at the People’s Palace on Glasgow Green. The main dome is 146 ft in diameter and 43 ft high.[1]
Built by James Boyd and Sons (Paisley). The architects were James Boucher and James Cousland. [2]
In 2004 the building was dismantled and removed to South Yorkshire for refurbishment by by Shepley Engineering Ltd, and re-erected and reopened in 2006.
