Joseph Thackray (1775-1828)
1828 January 22nd. Died at his house in Hatfield near Doncaster, an eminent civil engineer.[1] [2] [3] 'On Tuesday the 22d inst, at Hatfield, near Doncaster, after a short illness, aged 53, Mr. Thackray, a civil engineer of very considerable practice in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. He had been employed for the last two years on the Witham works between Lincoln and Boston, and in the month of November last was employed in taking levels in the line of the Foss, for the contemplated improvements of that river.'[4]
