JOSEPH PARKINSON was born at Bradford on 3rd April 1844, and was educated at Bradford.
In 1865 he commenced business on his own account at Bradford as light-machine constructor, and gradually extended it to the development and invention of labour saving machine-tools.
In 1892 his son became a partner in the concern, the title of the firm being altered to J. Parkinson and Son; and in the autumn of the following year the business was transferred to Shipley, where the premises known as the Prince of Wales Foundry were acquired and renamed the Canal Ironworks. Since then considerable extensions have been made to cope with the increasing business.
His death took place at Shipley after a long illness on 28th December 1910, in his sixty-seventh year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1900.
