1821 September 16th. Born at Hathiwell, Bolton le Moors, the son of James Edge, a Spinner, and his wife Sarah

1842 October 2nd. Married at Deane to Martha the daughter of Richard Longworth, a Blacksmith. Jonathan is shown as an Engineer.

1861 Living at Bark Street, Little Bolton: Jonathan Edge (age 39 born Dean, Lancs.), Master and Engineer, Iron Foundry. With his wife Martha Edge (age 39 born Dean, Lancs.) and their children William Edge (age 16 born Bolton), Engineer Foundry; James Edge (age 14 born Bolton), Engineer Foundry; Robert Edge (age 11 born Bolton); and Mary S. Edge (age 4 born Bolton). One servant.[1]
